2022.01.17 Instant Messaging Applications

It's really quite a shame that Discord is so prevelant as an instant messaging
application. Although it has many nice features and is very simple to use, it
is also spyware (https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/discord.html).

Element seems to be the similar to Discord out of all of the FOSS chat
applications I have seen. It uses the Matrix protocol. The main problem with
Element is the lack of a userbase. Not many apps can match the popularity of
Discord.

Mumble can also replace Discord as a voice chat application. I have not had
much experience with it, but I would love to try it out.
